The Mission of the Citizen Green pledge is to encourage everyone and remind them that they can make a difference on energy and water conservation issues locally, regionally and globally.

THE PLEDGE:

By signing the Citizen Green pledge, I am acknowlede my promise to make personal changes in my daily actions that will minimize my use of resources and reduce my ecological footprint. I also agree to make others aware of what I am doing and encourage them to make changes that help the environment, too.

 

I understand that it can be as easy as one, two, three and I agree to take at least three actions or make at least three changes in my daily life from the list below.

Turn off computer, lights and electronics when not in use
Recycle paper bottles cans and other reusable materials
Take clothing and small appliances to resell stores
Air dry dishwasher dishes instead of using the hot air dry cycle, run only full loads
Dry laundry on a clothesline
Wash clothes on cold or warm cycle, wash only full loads
Shorten showers by a few minutes to conserve hot water
Turn down your Hot Water Heater to120F
Keep furnace and A/C maintained, change filters twice a year
Cook efficiently- cover pots, cook several dishes at a time, use microwave to heat food
Keep drapes or blinds closed at night in winter and during the day in the summer
Clean/vacuum refrigerator coil every 4-6 months
Replace at least 3 incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs
Install faucet aerators in sinks to reduce water use
Caulk and weather strip all your doors and windows
InstallLow flow showerheads to conserve water
Have a professional seal your heat and air conditioning ducts to reduce loss of heated air
Install a programmable thermostat
Replace old inefficient appliances (over 10 years old) with an Energy Star model
Install an efficient tankless hot water heater
Eat one less beef meal per week
Take cloth bags to the grocery store, refuse bags when not necessary
Choose reusable items instead of disposable items
Buy locally produced products, save energy of getting products to stores
Make sure your printer paper is 100% post consumer recycled paper
Buy minimally packaged goods. Less energy cost to produce and dispose
Use Xeriscaping or Desertscaping in landscaping
Use a push mower when possible
Buy organic foods, results in less chemical pollutions in groundwater and lands
Buy energy certificates. Help spur the renewable energy market
Install solar panels
Install solar pool heater
Install weather based programmable water irrigation controller
Start a recycle plan at work or school
Start a carpool program at work or school
Take public transportation/bike or walk at least one day a week or for one regular errand
Combine errands into one trip when possible if you drive
Inflate car tires properly, use recommended motor oil and keep car well tuned
Buy hybrid or fuel efficient vehicle (30 mpg or better)
Learn what local, county, state and federal government is doing to promote green programs. Get involved.
